From time to time I will post some info on new printers that come out. This will hopefully help some of you decide on the next printer you are looking to purchase. And so you know, I try to recommend printers that are the most ink/toner efficient. This will in the end save you money compared to being stuck with a big supply hog. Here is a Canon budget ink jet printer.
Reviewers all say that printers made to sell for less than $100 are generally a poor value since replacement ink cartridges cost nearly as much as the printer itself. The best bargain is the no-frills Canon Pixma iP1800. This one you can pick up just about anywhere for around $40 or $50 dollars. Reviewers say text quality is merely average, but photos are surprisingly good (though color is sometimes off). Graphics quality is also good, and speed is more than satisfactory. Reviewers also like the bundled software. The Pixma iP1800 comes with starter cartridges — which means you’ll need to buy replacement cartridges right away. The meager 90-day limited warranty is commensurate with the price as well. The full capacity cartridges for this printer is black (PG-40) & color (CL-41). Replacement cost with Ink Solutions is $12.49 and $14.49 respectively. This is a total savings of $18 just on this small purchase!
